  • READ THIS FIRST!!!: I will be adding a lot more pictures from later on in the trip as my camera battery ran out thursday. Todd was using disposable cameras the last 4 days so we do have pics of the rest of the trip, but we need to wait until he gets them developed and then I will take pics of his pics on my digital camera so I can put them up here. I will also be adding captions and narrative to all the photos when I get the time - and the stories we have are amazing (gunfight anyone?) So check back later!

  • From Whence It Began: SIOUX YEEEAH YEEEEEAAAAAH!!!!: The actual start of the roadtrip was the Friday before the 1st weekend of Spring Break when we watched the Sioux CRUSH the 'dogs 8-2 in the 1st game of UND's WCHA 2005 playoff run (which culminated in a 3rd place victory over the Gophers! Ha! Stupid Gophers!!!). After this game we drove over to the 'cities for supplies. But I didn't actually have a picture of the 'dogs game, so this is just one of bro Shane and I at an earlier game. Its like instant pudding; quick, easy, and almost real!

  • The first night [overview]: We drove down into Missouri the first day and spent the night at a National Park campground a bit north of Kansas City. The money we spent on this campground would end up being the only time we ever paid for shelter the entire trip. Total cost per person: $2. We would end up each spending only around $150 each for the whole trip (which lasted a full week) and that includes gas (well over half our costs as we drove over 3500 miles) and food (which we cooked much of ourselves).

  • Arthur Bryant's, Kansas City: We ate lunch in Kansas City at a local barbeque joint called Arthur Bryant's on the way south. Their big item was a 1~lb roasted meat sandwich (pick your meat - I went with beef) that was just great! They had some excellent sauces to dip, also.

  • So Luke and I decide a better idea might be to...: ...sleep in the park's heated bathroom. Hard floor, but very cozy! Notice the ingenuity displayed in our judicious use of paper towels to keep our sleeping bags clean

  • Toasting marshmallows in Branson's park for breakfast [story]: Storytime: There was a lady who took walks each evening and morning at this park. She apparently realized that we spent the night in the park, and after talking to Todd and Luke became determined to give us $10, which she even had to drive out to an ATM to get. We tried to stop her, but she absolutely insisted, so we had no recourse but to thank her profusely and accept her gift so she wouldn't feel bad. She then gave us directions to the local Salvation Army and ordered us to get help. No lie.

  • Branson, MO gas station....: "Political Correctness? We don't need no stinkin' political correctness!!!" We found this gas station funny in a horrible, awful way and had to take a picture. We are sorry.

  • One picture just can't do this big guy justice...[addendum]: ...so Todd takes another picture of it as Luke and I pose and look stylin'. Stylin' with the banjo, yeeeah! (Notice Luke's fly is wide open. Apparently it broke during the trip and became a recurring problem. We are sorry.)

  • Branson's Pink Gorilla: Todd and I ride the pink gorilla. For full effect tilt your head 90 degrees or pick up your computer and set it down sideways (please only attempt this with laptops). I may fix this later if enough people complain about it.

  • Todd duct-taping hotdogs to the top of the station wagon [story]: So, we are driving through Arkansas and we see a great deal at a grocery store: packages of hotdogs for $1!! So we get 2 of 'em for the road. Except we have no refrigeration...or do we? Heheheh. Man, you should have seen the locals stare. And getting locals to stare at you in redneck rural Arkansas means you are looking pretty darn stupid.

  • Admit it, photos of hotdogs getting duct-taped to an old brown station wagon never get old!

  • Luke: "Yeaaah, this is how I roll baaybee" [addendum]: Notice the large lady from inside the grocery store peering at us. Don't see her? She's just a bit to the left of the "beef" sign. There were actually several others staring at us also, but they began to scamper once I pulled out the camera and began snapping photos. I guess they wanted to preserve their dignity or something. What a quaint concept!
